Fallen Fathers
By Mary Ann Nelson McAlister
I lost my father yesterday, just as the one before.
He passed beyond the Times of Life and onto Death’s far shore.
Now two have gone, my darling dads, two strong and noble men,
Of both I think endearingly, as mentors and as friends.
Each I loved, respectively, with gratitude, now missed.
My fallen fathers, I have lost, to Death's shore, cold and brisk.
I hope and pray for daily grace and happiness for them.
My two fathers, now both gone, most eloquent of men.
I miss you dads, I hope that you are happy far beyond
Life’s spectacle and satire and sometimes bitter song.
My heart will not forget you nor my memories crisp view.
Of my dear, loving, darling dads, I miss the two of you!
